Lobster Fishing | November 30th, 2007

The first month of the lobster season saw a total catch of 6 tonnes, with some 111kg confiscated for being too small or with eggs. The fishery is open until December 31st, and even if the catch in each of the following three months was the same as the first month, the quota of 26 tonnes would not be reached. The modest size of the catch indicates the generally poor state of the fishery and the need to reduce the quota drastically in future.
